Following the launch of Athanasios in March this year, a further new AVD provider in Switzerland has just been formed. Its name is Phoenix Care and its website is www.phoenix-care.ch
It has been created by two women, Barbara and Susanna. Between them they have several years of experience in providing Assisted Voluntary Dying. Their purpose is to provide the comprehensive AVD care that has historically been provided by Lifecircle. They will be based in Liestal, near Basel, and their AVDs will be carried out in the Lifecircle apartment on Oristalstrasse. Pictures of that apartment are already shown on the “Visit to Lifecircle” section of this website.
Their methodology and practices will be very similar to the other providers. They will be recommending that visitors should stay at the Hotel Engel. It is necessary to be a member beforehand. You will need to pay a joining fee of 100 Swiss Francs and then a further 50 per year. You will be able to apply for an AVD as soon as you have joined. The full cost is 10,600 Swiss Francs – which puts it halfway between Dignitas (CHF 11,350) and Athanasios (CHF 9,500).
People who were members of Lifecircle before they closed their members’ list in 2022 will not be entitled to use the long-membership discount at Phoenix – but should still continue to use Lifecircle itself.. However, Barbara and Susanna have set up Phoenix in order to help people whose preference would have been to join Lifecircle but who can no longer do so. And it is, of course, open to everyone.
Clients can expect to be met at the airport and transported by taxi to the hotel. Such costs, of course, will be charged in addition to the basic fee providers. Phoenix Care is new, small and supportive. It is rightly seeking also to be the most personal in its care.
